British publication The Daily Mail has apologized to actor David Duchovny and his family for suggesting the “Californication” star engaged in a romantic relationship with a tennis coach.

In an article published last month, but now removed from the Daily Mail’s Web site, the paper alluded to a possible affair between the actor and tennis coach Edit Pakay, prompting Duchovny to file a defamation suit in Los Angeles Superior Court in late October.

On Saturday, however, the publication apologized to the star and said their original story was “inaccurate.”

“On October 19, an article about actor David Duchovny may have suggested he had an amorous relationship with a tennis coach, Edit Pakay,” the paper wrote. “We now accept this is inaccurate and Ms. Pakay and Mr. Duchovny are only friends who used to play tennis occasionally. Their relationship went no further and was not a factor in Mr. and Mrs. Duchovny’s separation. We apologize to Ms. Pakay, Mr. Duchovny and to Mr. Duchovny’s family.”

Duchovny and Tea Leoni separated in October after 11 years of marriage.

Absolute teen hysteria took over Westwood Village Monday night as “Twilight’s” immortal leading man, Robert Pattinson, descended on the red carpet for the movie’s premiere.

AccessHollywood.com’s “Dish of Salt” Laura Saltman was in the middle of the vampire-madness and witness to the thousands of screaming fans, known as Twi-Hards, who started lining up at 6 AM for a glimpse of the “Twilight” stars - especially Robert.

“He’s gorgeous,” “He’s really hot,” and “He’s good looking and talented!” are just some of the accolades that fans told Access when asked why people are going insane for the young actor.

“It is a little nuts, yeah” Robert told Access’ Laura. “It’s been like this for a week now! I’ve gone deaf!”

The 22-year-old seems to think the hysteria is about his character and not himself.

“Well, they’re in love with the character,” he said. “I really don’t claim anything… Everyone always says, ‘I’m in love with you’ and I’m like, ‘Why?’”

Some hardcore “Twilight” fans were incensed when Robert was cast as their beloved Edward, but series author Stephanie Meyer told Access they quickly learned to love him.

“It wasn’t about [Robert], it was about the fact that they had already cast [the character] in their minds, so they’re thinking, ‘But this isn’t who I picture,’” Stephanie told Access. “I think everybody warmed up [to him] pretty fast.”

Stephanie credits his “British thing, charmingness and some of it is just that he’s drop dead gorgeous.”

“The part that they don’t know yet, is that he’s so insanely talented. I just can’t wait to watch his career from here ’cause I think he can do anything,” she added.

Robert’s “Twilight” costar, Kristen Stewart, thinks he is the perfect actor for the role of Edward, telling Access, “He was really the only guy who could’ve played him.”

Britney Spears admits her marriage to Kevin Federline was a mistake.

In her new 90-minute MTV documentary, “Britney: For The Record,” the pop star talks candidly about her three-year marriage to Federline.

“I think I married for the wrong reasons,” Britney said. “Instead of following my heart and doing what made me really happy, I just did it for the sake of the idea of everything.”

The clip of the new show, scheduled to air on MTV on November 30, was posted on Sky1.com, a site for a British TV channel.

In the clip, as Britney talks about Kevin, her single “Womanizer” plays in the background.

“Your music is a reflection of what you’re going through. It’s such a part of me, the record, because of what I’ve gone through,” she added.

In additional excerpts from the documentary posted by U.K.’s The Sun, Britney admitted to struggling with the restraints put on her life over the past year.

“There’s no excitement, there’s no passion. I have really good days, and then I have bad days,” Britney said.

She even went as far as to say living under the control of others (her father Jamie maintains his conservatorship over Britney) is worse than being locked up.

“Even when you go to jail, you know there’s the time when you’re gonna get out. But in this situation, it’s never ending. It’s just like ‘Groundhog Day’ every day,” she continued. “If I wasn’t under the restraints I’m under, I’d feel so liberated. When I tell them the way I feel, it’s like they hear but they’re really not listening.”

And while she had her fair share of personal problems over the last few years, Britney suggests she has changed her ways and learned from her mistakes.

“I never wanted to become one of those prisoner people. I always wanted to feel free,” she said. “I think I’ve learnt my lesson now and enough is enough.”

Jessica Simpson told Ellen DeGeneres on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” in an episode airing Wednesday, that boyfriend and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has helped her grow and succeed in life. Plus, Ellen also tried to pry some baby details about her sister Ashlee’s upcoming birth - but Jessica kept mostly mum on the matter.

“He is a good guy and he’s really just helped me along in life and taught me a lot about being comfortable being myself,” Jessica told Ellen of boyfriend Tony. “He’s taught me to calm down a lot.”

Jessica said Tony has also inspired her to try and break some her bad habits.

“I’m very bad at procrastinating and I’m not organized and he’s not organized either, but [he] does make me want to be organized for us,” she continued.

Ellen asked if their differences are what attracts her to Tony, but Jessica said, “Actually, we’re really a lot a like. I’m just more into fashion than he is.”

Jessica also told Ellen that her sister, Ashlee, who is due any day now with her first child, is trying anything and everything to have her baby.

“She’s really just jumping around trying everything right now,” Jessica said of Ashlee. “They’re going to have to [induce labor], it’s already developing really quick.”

Ellen attempted to get Jessica to announce the sex of the baby, but the future aunt remained mum - and in the good graces of her sister and husband Pete Wentz.

“I can’t say because they haven’t said,” she told Ellen. “I’ll stick my foot in my mouth and get in trouble and I won’t be a good aunt.”

Mel B is heading to Las Vegas.

The former Spice Girl is just months away from starring in “PEEPSHOW,” an adult theatrical extravaganza at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, beginning April 18, 2009.

“I actually start my rehearsals in February,” Mel revealed to Access Hollywood. “The show is like a burlesque, sexy woman power/girl power adventure. [I'm] very excited.”

The show, tickets for which are already on sale, was created by Jerry Mitchell, the director and choreographer of Broadway’s “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”

Using all of Mel’s singing, dancing and acting talents, the production features Mel playing a character who leads another character, played by “General Hospital’s” Kelly Monaco, on an adventure.

“It’s all about a girl that gets taken on this journey, by me,” Mel explained of the show. “It’s all song, all dance… For me it was more about getting back into performing and this was a perfect show.”

“She’s the girl that I bring on board into my web of adventure,” Mel continued. “I’m the narrator/friend… It’s very sexy, very spicy and it’s all about empowering women, so [it has] all these different journeys and routines that I take her on.”

Mel said that she is eager to reclaim the stage next year in a fashion akin to her pop star days.

“I’m going back to my Spice Girls roots and getting on stage and entertaining and singing and dancing, and I can’t wait,” she said.

Sean “Diddy” Combs is becoming a prosecutor — at least on television.

CBS says the rapper has agreed to a two-episode appearance on “CSI: Miami.”

The network says Combs will portray a prosecutor who doesn’t get along with police Lt. Horatio Caine, played by David Caruso. CBS said Tuesday that Combs’ episodes will probably air in mid-to late winter.

Combs drew praise for his role in the ABC movie “A Raisin in the Sun.”

Another rap artist, Nelly, has had a recurring role this season in “CSI: New York.”

The Clark County district attorney’s office in Nevada is seeking criminal charges against hip-hop mogul Marion “Suge” Knight.

A criminal complaint sent to the Las Vegas Justice Court on Monday charges Knight with two counts of felony drug possession and one count of misdemeanor battery.

A court spokeswoman says the charges were being processed Tuesday.

Knight’s attorney wasn’t immediately available for comment.

Police allege they saw the founder of bankrupt Death Row Records beating his girlfriend while brandishing a knife in a parking lot near the Las Vegas Strip in August.

Authorities said the woman wasn’t stabbed, but was treated at a hospital for injuries. Police say Knight had the drugs Ecstasy and hydrocodone when they arrested him.

Knight was later released after posting $19,000 bail.

“Bruno” Strikes Again: In more Hollywood hoax news, Sacha Baron Cohen’s character “Bruno” hit the set of NBC’s “Medium” last week, Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reported. The show was temporarily shut down after Sacha, dressed as Bruno, interrupted a courtroom scene with series star, Patricia Arquette. “No one had a clue it was Sacha playing Bruno,” a “Medium” insider told the mag. “It’s amazing he was able to infiltrate the set and pull this off.” Wait… shouldn’t Patricia have sensed this was about to happen?

LiLo & SamRo Munch: Last week they were spotted hitting up a Burger King at LAX before jetting off to London, and now Lindsay and Sam were spotted stocking up on chips, cookies and chocolate at a corner store in London, London’s The Daily Mail reported. The late night munchies came after a dinner at London’s Nobu Berkeley. Maybe they should have found a Burger King in London, instead of Nobu.

A perfume company is claiming that Prince and his music publisher failed to honor a contract to help market a fragrance named for the album “3121.”

The breach-of-contract lawsuit was filed by Revelations Perfume and Cosmetics Inc. in New York. The company says it licensed Prince’s name, likeness and the album title “3121″ to market its fragrance.

Revelations says it put $2.5 million into the project and agreed to pay Universal half of net profits from sales of the perfume.

But the lawsuit claims that since the launch of the fragrance in July 2007, Universal and Prince have failed to participate in various promotions for it.

Universal did not immediately return a call for comment. Prince’s music studio in Chanhassen, Minn., did not answer several calls.
